**Please note that we will be doing this workshop/seminar in Green Bay at a private residence in February or March...date to be determined.  This workshop/seminar will cover the same topics but will be slightly abbreviated.  If you live in the Green Bay metro area and would prefer not to drive to our garden center, please call/email Apple Valley to let us know of your interest in attending this off-site workshop.  In addition, we will be presenting several 1-hour seminars at the huge WBAY Home & Garden Show in March at the GB Arena / Shopko Hall.

WORKSHOP PORTION - OUTSIDE...
Proper pruning and fertilization is essential to maintain healthy fruit trees and berry plants.  Find out why you should prune your trees and berries, the right time of year, which tools work best, and the key steps to get the job done professionally.  This workshop will include live, hands-on demonstrations.  Get your questions answered about your specific problems you may be experiencing.

SEMINAR PORTION - INSIDE...

Proper Fertilization...How, When and Where?  We will have an in-depth discussion on the need to fertilize Fruit Trees & Berry Plants.  Included in this discussion will be comparing and contrasting soil (granular) vs. foliar fertilizers and why some Fruit Tree & Berry Plants varieties require substantial higher rates of fertilizers than others.  We will also address the importance of understanding Nitrogen and N-application rates.  This is the #1 problem-causing nutrient, with Calcium a close second.  Should you be doing soil testing and leaf analysis?  Find out!

Primary Agenda Topics

  • Review of rootstocks and why they're critical to understand for all fruit tree types
  • Impacts of 2012 crop loss on 2013 crop...what did we learn?
  • Suppressants & thinners vs. pesticide applications for the 2013 season
  • Pest-Free Fruit Tree varieties?
  • Antique/Heirloom varieties vs. Modern varieties...is there a difference or advantages?
  • Review of the 4 Basic Tree Pruning Systems + 2 types of pruning cuts
  • Selecting the best mix of Fruit Trees for your Wildlife Food Plot
  • Pruning Brambles: Blackberries, Summer Bearing Raspberries and Ever-(Fall) Bearing Raspberries
  • Essential Basics of Planting & Maintaining Raspberries, Blackberries & Blueberries for Maxiumum Yield and Quality
Dress accordingly to the predicted weather conditions as this will be an outdoors workshop! The workshop will be held unless predicted temperatures are less than 10F or severe weather is predicted. In the event that this workshop would be cancelled, pre-registered attendees will be notified Friday evening preceding the workshop. Remember, this is Wisconsin!

Retaining Wall & Patio Installation 101: Out with the Old & In with the New! To Be Determined FREE!
Co-Hosted by industry experts this workshop will be a must for anyone planning on installing new or replacing existing hardscape features in their yard this season. Apple Valley Staff will kick off the workshop by overviewing hardscape basics including site evaluation, essential steps involved with site prep, proper installation techniques, and much more. Subsequently, industry experts will discuss the process of product selection for your project. To make this event as interactive as possible, this workshop will be held at an existing worksite at Apple Valley where new displays are in the process of being built. Bring pens and notepads as this is one event you won't want to miss a single detail of!
